چکیده

Maritime safety and security require a constant surveillance of the traffic at sea, and several human actors are in charge of this control. Potential risks alerts, suspicious vessels and description of the situation are managed by visual surveillance systems. But these systems do not provide real analysis tools for maritime traffic data. Geovisualization and visual analytics have shown to be very efficient to handle big sets of heterogeneous data, and to make knowledge discovery easier to users. But advanced visual analytics environment can appear to be too complex to be used, according to user’s skills. Surveillance tasks need to be formalized for having proper analysis tools. In our research toward user’s skill adapted geovisualization, we propose here a study of visual surveillance tasks in maritime surveillance in a high-level taxonomy. Spatialization of the data will be processed according to these tasks, for proposing adequate visualization methods.

User Profiling and Geovisual Analytics Process Modeling for Maritime Surveillance

Geovisual analytics is used for discovering patterns in spatiotemporal data by the way of visual interaction. But developing adequate visualization tools requires knowing the tasks and the users that will perform this data exploration. In order to benefit from geovisual analytics advances, it is necessary for maritime surveillance uses of maps to be investigated. Formalization of map uses and o...

Guiding the Controller in Geovisual Analytics to Improve Maritime Surveillance

Maritime traffic surveillance requires a very accurate and continuous analysis of the sea. This area consists of many different objects, actors and rules. Monitoring such a wide and complex area requires adapted visual tools, such as Maritime Surveillance Systems. These tools help identifying abnormal behaviours, which can lead to risky situations. We investigate the usability of visual analyti...

Toward User-Centred Geovisual Analytics in Maritime Surveillance

Within the domain of maritime safety and security, many operators and analysts are asked to manage huge set of real-time data. Information systems, such as Maritime Surveillance Systems, are used to visualize and analyse information of monitored vessels (e.g., AIS, RADAR). Past tracks, present states of vessels and contextual data, such as meteorology, are gathered in these visual platforms. Fi...

Using geovisual analytics in Google Earth to understand disease distribution: a case study of campylobacteriosis in the Czech Republic (2008–2012)

BACKGROUND Visual analytics aims to connect the processing power of information technologies and the user's ability of logical thinking and reasoning through the complex visual interaction. Moreover, the most of the data contain the spatial component. Therefore, the need for geovisual tools and methods arises. Either one can develop own system but the dissemination of findings and its usability...
